The Village of Vibank was incorporated on June 23, 1911.

No one is really sure where the name Vibank came from.  Some of the older residents of the village say that in the pioneer days the farmers brought their cattle to the  village to hold them there until the train came to have them shipped for sale.    In German, the wording was "vie-bank," which translates to cattle bank or storage,  and then from there it came to be known as Vibank; others say that the name came from the railway, which named the settlement after an noteworthy English Lord.

The early years  saw pioneers settling in Vibank from various parts of Europe; many were of German origin and to this day there are decendants from that era.
